Two 12 year-old Kohler boys were rescued from the island on Wood Lake behind The Shops at Woodlake in Kohler on Sunday. According to unconfirmed reports, the two boys were among a group of about seven boys near the lake, when the two decided to walk out to the island. After one boy fell into the water, the two decided not to attempt to walk back and remained on the island until they were rescued by the Kohler Fire Department which responded with its 6×6 rescue vehicle and Fortuna inflatable ice rescue boat. When a fireman asked the boys to move to the north end of the island where they would be picked up, one of the boys lifted and carried his friend, who had removed his wet shoes and socks.
Also on scene were the Kohler Police Department, a City of Sheboygan Fire Department ambulance, and two officers from Wisconsin State Patrol (Orange Cross Ambulance Service and Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department deputies were busy with other calls).
One boy sustained a cut to the hand, the other boy who fell into the water was taken to an ambulance where he was examined, and, according to an unconfirmed report, was taken home via private vehicle.
